When Uno-X began its collaboration with XtraMile five years ago, the objective was to raise competence levels and make security training simpler and more effective. Today, the company has moved from manual PowerPoint presentations to a modern, automated learning platform that engages the entire organisation—delivering measurable results.
“Before 2020, we had no training platform at all. Today, we have a 100% course completion rate and zero compromised users,” says Rene Lares, IT and Security Manager at Uno-X.

Before partnering with XtraMile, training at Uno-X was delivered manually, often through PowerPoint presentations and distributed documents. Keeping track of participation was difficult, and it was hard to know who had actually completed the courses.
The goal was therefore to establish a solution that could:
Increase IT security awareness across the entire organisation
Make training accessible to everyone—regardless of role or digital experience
Ensure high completion rates without extensive administration
Measure the impact of training and maintain full visibility into employee progress
Uno-X wanted a complete solution that could be implemented in a scalable way while requiring minimal time spent on administration and follow-up.
Uno-X chose XtraMile’s complete learning platform, making use of ready-made courses and simulated phishing attacks.
Quick and Easy to Get Started
Getting started with XtraMile was fast and straightforward. The platform is intuitive, requires minimal training, and makes it easy for all employees to begin. Single sign-on and automated distribution provide seamless access and a consistent, secure user experience.
“It has been extremely easy for employees. They simply click in and get started. Keeping the threshold low has been very important for us,” says Lares.
Year-Round Learning Through Microlearning
Instead of concentrating training into a single “security month,” employees receive short, focused learning sessions throughout the year. Each module lasts just 3–5 minutes and can be completed at any time—on desktop or mobile.
“With XtraMile, we can run everything from phishing tests to training in small 3–5 minute sessions. It’s short enough that no one can say they don’t have time,” says Lares.
This microlearning approach makes it easier to build knowledge over time and ensures consistently high completion rates.
Engaging Learning - Not Intrusive
Breaking courses into short sessions prevents training from being perceived as a disruption. Features such as quizzes and gamification make learning more engaging, and employees often complete courses the same day they receive them.
“It’s not annoying for employees—it’s actually fun. People know it’s quick and genuinely useful,” Lares explains.
Automation That Saves Timeand Resources
XtraMile handles everything from planning and distribution to follow-up and reporting. Automated processes ensure continuous training throughout the year without additional administrative effort.
As a result, Uno-X has achieved significant progress without increasing internal resource usage.
The impact of the collaboration has been clear and measurable.
When the initiative started in 2020, the completion rate for security training was around 50%, and up to 30% of employees were fooled by phishing simulations. After implementing XtraMile, Uno-X achieved 100% completion—and no employees are compromised anymore.
“We’ve gone from 20–30% compromise to 0%. Now employees send me screenshots of fake emails saying ‘nice try!’ That really shows how much awareness has increased,” says Lares.
Building a Strong Security Culture
Continuous training has led to a genuinely strong security culture across the organisation. Employees share experiences, report suspicious emails, and take responsibility for their own security—both at work and in their private lives.
“Everyone in the organisation, regardless of age or background, now knows how to spot a phishing email. That says a lot about how accessible and user-friendly the training is,” Lares adds.
Summary
Course completion: Increased from 50% to 100%
Phishing compromise rate: Reduced from 30% to 0%
A strong, organisation-wide IT security culture with high awareness among all employees
For Uno-X, the collaboration with XtraMile has been defined by trust, close cooperation, and continuous development.
“The partnership with XtraMile is unique. They listen, follow up, and deliver quickly. It doesn’t feel like a supplier relationship—it feels like a collaboration and a true partnership,” says Lares.
XtraMile’s local presence in Norway and short communication lines are highlighted as key advantages. When Uno-X needs support, they receive fast responses and close follow-up from dedicated contacts.
Looking ahead, Uno-X sees great potential for expanding its use of XtraMile.
“The platform is so flexible that it can be used for much more than security training. We see significant potential going forward,” Lares concludes.
Uno-X is a nationwide chain of self-service fuel stations in Norway, with approximately 200 stations and around 100 employees at its headquarters. The company is part of Reitan Retail and actively works with sustainable solutions in energy and mobility.
