The Norwegian Nurses Organisation (NSF) has chosen XtraMile as its new learning platform. With this decision, the organisation takes an important step towards more digital and accessible training for employees, elected representatives, and members. The Norwegian Nurses Organisation is Norway’s fourth-largest trade union, with nearly 130,000 members.
In this connection, XtraMile spoke with Competence Advisor Johanne Nygaard.

“We have seen the need for a modern e-learning solution for a long time,” says Johanne Nygaard, Competence Advisor at the Norwegian Nurses Organisation. “As a trade union, we have many different user groups – ranging from employees and politically elected representatives to professional groups and union representatives. We wanted a platform that could bring all of this together in one place.”
NSF established a cross-functional project group of five people, representing the different user groups. After testing and evaluating solutions from seven providers, the choice was clear.
“XtraMile stood out from the very beginning. The platform felt intuitive for both administrators and users. It was important for us to be able to get started quickly without extensive training or the need for consultants,” she explains.
The organisation highlights that XtraMile demonstrated a strong understanding of its needs and structure.
“The pricing model was clear and transparent, and we felt that XtraMile truly understood who we are and how we work. That gave us a great sense of confidence,” she says.
The goal is for the platform to be adopted across the entire organisation – from onboarding new employees to training union representatives and members.
“We see XtraMile becoming a shared tool for everything from short learning snippets and routine training to larger courses and professional development. We want to build a solid foundation now, so that the entire organisation gradually sees the value and opportunities the solution offers.”
Among the factors considered were XtraMile’s integrated AI features and the ability to quickly produce courses internally without costly consultant hours.
“It is important for us to own and protect our own data, and for the AI functionality to actually work in practice. We were able to test this ourselves and were impressed by how easy it was to create high-quality e-learning,” she says.
The close relationship with the provider was also highlighted as a positive aspect.
“It is reassuring to have a Norwegian supplier with Norwegian customer support and good working conditions. Everything was well-organised and professional – it was simply a safe choice.”
Following an efficient kickoff meeting, NSF is now ready to implement the platform.
“We are both excited and enthusiastic. This will be a major step forward for the entire organisation. Our goal is for digital training to become a natural and effective part of everyday work at the Norwegian Nurses Organisation.”
The Norwegian Nurses Organisation is Norway’s fourth-largest trade union, with nearly 130,000 members.
The organisation works on social policy, professional policy, and interest advocacy, and is the second-largest union within Unio. Unio is a confederation for university- and college-educated professionals, with members from 14 different unions.
