The Salten Aqua Group covers the entire value chain for the production and sale of salmon—from roe and smolt to the finished product. With around 300 employees and staff from approximately 20 different countries, the group needed a single solution for onboarding, mandatory training, reporting, and skills development.
XtraMile spoke with Monica Brunsvik, HR Manager at Salten Aqua, about why the group chose XtraMile and what needs the platform will address going forward.

XtraMile brings together onboarding, mandatory training, and skills development
Salten Aqua will use XtraMile for onboarding, mandatory courses, legally required training, leadership development, webinars, and general skill enhancement.
For new employees, important information is organized into clear learning paths. For HR and managers, this means less manual work, easier follow-up, and a better overview.
“We needed a learning platform that is functional and suitable for everyone,” says Brunsvik.
“We’ll use XtraMile for onboarding new employees, mandatory courses, and updating legally required training. These are key needs for us,” says Brunsvik.
Salten Aqua must also document training that does not lead to formal certification but still requires follow-up, including HSE courses for managers, gender equality, and anti-discrimination training. The goal is also to make training more accessible in everyday work. When procedures, HR information, and professional updates are presented as short, practical courses, the knowledge becomes easier to apply.

Fast and reliable reporting is critical for certification and audits
Salten Aqua has high documentation requirements. The aquaculture business is certified under standards such as GlobalG.A.P. and ASC, which include extensive requirements for training, traceability, and documentation.
In addition, there are legally required courses, FSE certification, internal requirements, and audits. Therefore, Salten Aqua must be able to quickly document that the correct training has been completed by the right people.
“We have many legally required courses. Many of them need to be repeated. So we need a system that works,” says Brunsvik.
Reporting was a key reason why Salten Aqua wanted a new platform. During audits, documentation must be easy to retrieve when needed.
“Reports are incredibly important to us. It has to be easy to find them. If you’re in the middle of an audit and can’t pull up the report, you might get a non-conformity—even if you know people have completed the courses,” says Brunsvik.
XtraMile will therefore be a vital tool for quality, compliance, and risk management—both when courses are distributed and when documentation is required.
AI-powered language support makes the training accessible to employees speaking over 20 languages
The Salten Aqua Group has employees from approximately 20 countries. For the training to be effective, the content must be understandable to employees with different linguistic backgrounds, roles, and work locations.
XtraMile makes it possible to create course content in Norwegian and make it available in multiple languages using AI-powered translation.
“We have employees from about 20 different countries in our industry, so we need a solution that works,” says Brunsvik.
Language support is particularly important where many employees work closely with production, operations, and seasonal processes. Information must be disseminated quickly and be easy to understand.
For some parts of the group, XtraMile can also be used as a channel for internal information and newsletters, since content can be quickly made available in multiple languages.
Salten Aqua plans to develop its own courses—and supplement them with ready-made courses from XtraMile.

With XtraMile, the group can build courses on its own, using its own documents and procedures, among other resources. This provides flexibility and reduces dependence on external vendors.
“We’d like to create the courses ourselves. But we also want the option to incorporate external courses. That’s why we chose XtraMile,” says Brunsvik.
At the same time, Salten Aqua can supplement its offerings with ready-made courses from XtraMile’s course library, particularly where a quality-assured introductory course yields faster results.

When Salten Aqua was evaluating a new learning platform, user-friendliness was crucial. The solution had to be easy to test, understand, and implement.
“It was the user-friendliness that made us choose XtraMile. It was very easy to log into the platform, create a test user, and start testing,” says Brunsvik.
