Escapes of farmed fish can have major consequences.
“Fish Welfare – Land-Based” is an e-learning course that provides a thorough introduction to ensuring good fish welfare in land-based aquaculture facilities, including fry farms. You’ll learn about fish biology, behavior, and needs in closed systems, as well as the factors that affect welfare during different production phases. The course provides practical methods for monitoring, assessing, and improving fish welfare, and we review applicable regulations such as Section 6 of the Aquaculture Operations Regulations so that you can make knowledge-based and ethically sound decisions.
The course was developed in collaboration with Morefish and is 100% online. You set your own pace and can learn whenever and wherever it suits you. The content consists of text, images, animations, and interactive exercises that provide an engaging and effective learning experience you can apply directly to your daily work in fish farming and aquaculture
What does the course consist of?
The course is divided into seven chapters, covering the following topics:
• Introduction to fish welfare and aquaculture
• Basic biology and the needs of salmon
• The Aquaculture Operations Regulations and related regulations
• Diseases and parasites
• Stress and pain in fish
• Implementation of best practices and improvement strategies
What does the course look like?
Each chapter consists of several lessons, which provide you with detailed information and knowledge about each topic. The courses include text, images, videos, animations, and interactive exercises that provide an engaging learning experience. At the end of the course, you’ll take a final test.
