What is Microlearning?

Microlearning

Microlearning is training delivered through short, focused learning units. Each unit addresses a single question, task, or specific objective. It can be used independently or as part of a larger learning path. The duration is tailored to the content, rather than a fixed time limit that applies to all programs.

Well-defined learning objectives

The key point is that each unit has well-defined content—not just that it is short. Multiple units can be part of a learning path or used for review. The format can be text, video, audio, or exercises. A single unit does not need to cover the entire skill set required for a work process.

Example: Microlearning

Employees receive a short lesson on how to report one type of deviation. The lesson explains the procedure and concludes with an exercise. A later lesson covers a different type of deviation. Each part provides a specific learning outcome, while the parts together form part of the training for the same routine.
