What is SCORM?

SCORM

SCORM stands for Sharable Content Object Reference Model and is a set of specifications for digital learning content. Among other things, the standard describes how a course is packaged, launched, and communicates with a compatible LMS. It is used to make course content less dependent on any one specific system.

How does SCORM work?

A course can be exported as a SCORM package from an authoring tool and imported into a compatible LMS. During completion, the course can report status and test results. The content and platform must support a compatible version. SCORM is about packaging and communication, not about pedagogical quality or free editing across all systems.

Example: SCORM

A company is moving an introductory course to a new learning platform. The course package is imported, and a test user completes the content. Status and results are displayed on the platform. This example illustrates how a course can be used across compatible systems without having to be recreated.
