What is Training Plan?

Training Plan

A training plan is an overview of the objectives, activities, and follow-up for training an individual or group. It describes what the participants are to learn, how they are to learn it, and who is responsible. The plan may pertain to onboarding, professional development, or mandatory training.

Responsibility and Follow-Up, Not Just Sequence

A training plan sets the activities within a framework that includes expected outcomes, timelines, and responsibilities. A learning path primarily outlines the participant’s sequence through the activities. The plan can thus be more comprehensive than the path itself. It can apply to a single specific task or a longer process of development in a role.

Example: Training Plan

An employee is assigned responsibility for a specialized system. The plan outlines a theory course, guided training, and a practical assignment. A colleague is responsible for providing guidance, and the manager follows up at agreed-upon times. The overview shows both the activities and how the employee will receive support along the way.
