The Church of Norway is taking an important new step in its work on information security. The Church has chosen to use XtraMile’s courses in IT security and digital competence for all employees – more than 7,000 people in total.
In this connection, we spoke with Elsa Aaquist Storeng, Head of Information Security at the Church of Norway.
High-quality courses – easy to use
“We want to make it easy for all employees to keep their skills up to date. With XtraMile, we get ready-made, high-quality courses that fit well into a busy workday,” says Storeng.
The courses from XtraMile are divided into short, pedagogical lessons lasting 2–5 minutes. The modular structure makes it easy to learn in small steps and to repeat content when needed.
“When learning is relevant and easily accessible, completion rates also increase,” Storeng adds.
Available to all employees nationwide
In collaboration with Kirkepartner, the Church’s own provider of ICT services, XtraMile’s courses are made available through Single Sign-On (SSO). Synchronization with Entra ID ensures up-to-date and secure access for all users.
“This is a nationwide initiative that includes all church councils in Norway. Employees can take the courses when it suits them, and managers have a clear overview of completion,” Storeng explains.
A modern learning experience
XtraMile delivers ready-made e-learning courses in IT security, GDPR, and digital awareness. The courses combine short videos, interactive elements, and practical exercises, making learning both relevant and engaging.
“Our platform is designed to make training simple, engaging, and effective. It’s not just about completing courses, but about creating real understanding and lasting change within the organization,” says Sten Ove Elvegård at XtraMile.
An important step for security
The Security Committee of the Church of Norway has worked effectively with information security and data protection for several years, and this initiative builds on the Church’s long-term efforts.
“This is an important step in strengthening the security culture within the Church of Norway. We look forward to offering high-quality courses that contribute to safe and conscious practices in everyday work,” Storeng concludes.
