What is Learning Analytics?
- Learning Analytics
Learning analytics is the collection and analysis of data to understand and improve learning and learning environments. In organizations, this data may include course activity, completion rates, responses to assignments, and feedback. The goal is to identify what works and where follow-up is needed.
- Also known as: Learning analytics
What does learning data show?
The data can show where participants get stuck, which questions result in incorrect answers, or which activities are completed. The numbers describe events in the learning process, but they don’t always explain the cause. A high completion rate isn’t the same as a high level of proficiency. The interpretation depends on the content, the target audience, and other information.
Example: Learning Analytics
Many participants answer the same question incorrectly in a course. The course instructor compares the answers with feedback and discovers an unclear explanation. The content is adjusted, and the results are re-examined. The analysis thus helps identify a problem in the course, not just count completions.
