What is Onboarding?

Onboarding

Onboarding is the process of introducing and integrating new employees into a company. It involves training in tasks and procedures, as well as fostering a sense of belonging, setting expectations, and promoting collaboration. The goal is for the new employee to feel confident in their role and be able to perform their job.

More Than Just an Introductory Course

Onboarding encompasses both professional training and social integration into the company. An introductory course is just one activity in the process. Preboarding refers to preparations before the first day of work, while onboarding encompasses the ongoing integration. Digital activities, contact with colleagues, and follow-up from a manager can all be part of the same process.

Example: Onboarding

A new hire is provided with a learning path that includes an introductory course and practical assignments. A mentor demonstrates work routines, and the manager clarifies expectations in ongoing conversations. The courses provide general information, while tasks and interaction with colleagues help the employee settle into the role.
